I took the summer of 2002 off from healing work and didn't know if I would continue this path.  Late July I went to pick up my children from a friend's house where they had been playing.  I was greeted at the door by Maria, the children's mom.  She was hobbling on a twisted ankle that she had sprained a few days earlier.  She wore a tensor bandage and told me it was quite uncomfortable.  Before I left with my children, her mother asked me if I could possibly help her daughter.  I questioned what she meant, and was informed by Maria, that her mother felt I could help her with her ankle and asked if I would be willing to do so.

I had never discussed my healing work with this family before and was slightly suprised by this request.  I proceeded to do a quick healing on Maria's ankle.  I returned the next evening to find Maria walking about, her ankle no longer swollen as it had been and her spirit somewhat lifted.

Her mother requested I help her with her arthritic knees and her father had a shoulder injury that he wanted relief for.   I worked with her parents a few times, as well as with Maria for her swollen feet and aches and pains.  Maria continued to feel relief from various aches and pains as I worked with her, but her energy was quite drained and she consistently complained of feeling poorly.

It was during this time that she asked if I could possibly do anything to help her 6-year old son with his heart.   At birth he had been diagnosed with a hole in his heart.  The doctor wanted to operate right away, but Maria could not deal with the concept of open-heart surgeon on her baby and decided to take a wait and see approach.  As he aged, the hole in his heart continued to affect him.  If he exerted himself swimming or playing, he often came home with a red face, drained and exhausted.  He would be so completely drained he would fall asleep.  She was quite concerned and the cardiologist recommended open-heart surgeon and he felt that unless it changed, which was highly unlikely, it would be necessary to repair the hole.  Generally if the hole hasn't healed by the age of 5, it was unlikely to do so.  Her son had just turned 6.

Her concern was great and I agreed to help any way that I could.  I sat with him a few times and placed my hands on his heart.  He was quite receptive to me, which Maria was pleased with, because he often felt uncomfortable around adults.

The change she noticed was immediate, or so she told me.  She found he was able to go out and play without coming in exhausted and drained.  His face was not red when he played and he had much more energy.  She noticed for the first time, that summer, he wanted to swim with the other children.  She felt something good had happened with him.

It was in late August that her son went to the cardiologist and it was discovered that the hole was nearly healed.   The cardiologist felt open heart surgery would not be necessary.  Maria was thrilled, as were her parents.  The fear of open-heart surgery had plagued her since the birth of her only son.

Unfortunately, Maria's story took a sad twist.  Around the time of her son's heart mending, Maria entered the hospital with severe jaundice.  When I first began working with her son I noticed the whites of Maria's eyes were yellow and mentioned to her she should see her doctor.  People at her work had also recommended she see a doctor and find out what was wrong.   Unfortunately, Maria was afraid of bad news and didn't go.  By the time she did see her doctor, it was through emergency admittance to the hospital.  The cause of her jaundice was discovered to be cyrrosis of the liver.  The diagnosis took them a few weeks to get, due to the severity of her swelling, kidney infection and jaundice.  She possibly could have been suffering from this ailment for quite sometime and it appeared that the body was beginning to go into failure.

I didn't know how to help Maria.  I went in the hospital and helped her in whatever ways I could.   Unfortunately, there was nothing anyone could do to help.  No amount of love, energy or medicine could help her suffering body.  Maria died October 24, 2002.   She was the mother of two children and she was a beautiful soul.

After she died, I asked myself why I was brought into her life.  I had known Maria socially, as a neighbor and mother of my children's friends, but not until that summer had I ever truly known her.  She was a loving mother who did not want to die.  She wanted to live and be there for her family.  She was a gentle and loving soul, who was more concerned about others than she was about herself.

Then I realized that Maria's biggest concern was her children.  She dreaded the idea of her son having to have an operation and this was something that had weighed on her heart for 6 years.  Perhaps, my coming into her life was all part of God's plan.  Perhaps I was a vessel used to help her son, and in turn bring her peace.  Perhaps she was able to leave the earth with a small bit of comfort, knowing that her son was finally on the road to health.
